 Dear Friends and Colleagues,

 I am launching today "Tweets and the Streets" a research blog about
 new media and new spaces of
 protest. The blog will host reports and analyses on the communication
 practices of the new protest movements which have emerged in this very
 very intense year 2011, from the Arab Spring, to the indignados, and
 occupywallstreet.

 Updates on the blog will be publicised through my twitter account
 @paologerbaudo - follow me if you want to keep up to date.

 I have recently signed a contract with Pluto press for a book on the
 topic discussed in the blog, with the provisional title "Tweeting from
 the barricades: Protest media and Contemporary Activism", and I want
 to use this blog as a tool to accompany me in the writing process, as
 well as a a platform to initiate critical debate with fellow
 researchers, activists and all those who are interested in the
 cultural transformations of contemporary activism.

 I am looking forward to your feedback and criticisms, and in case you
 are interested to your contributions in the form of posts or comments
 on the articles already posted. This week the main post is about the
 relationship between leadership and activism at the time of social
 media as discussed in the post titled "Follow me.. but don't ask me to
 lead you". It would be great to hear your ideas about this..
