Il Link Center for the Arts of the Information Age è orgoglioso di  
annunciare che Collect the WWWorld. The Artist as Archivist in the  
Internet Age, la mostra da noi prodotta e presentata per la prima  
volta allo Spazio Contemporanea, Brescia dal 24 settembre al 15  
ottobre 2011, verrà riproposta presso la House of Electronic Arts Basel.

L’ultimo decennio ha visto una crescita vertiginosa nella produzione e  
distribuzione di immagini. La diffusione di mezzi di produzione a  
basso costo ha portato all’esplosione della produzione amatoriale,  
mentre la rete ha consentito a tutta questa produzione, fino a poco  
tempo fa confinata nel privato, di accedere al livello della  
distribuzione. Collect the WWWorld. The Artist as Archivist in the  
Internet Age esplora l'impatto di questo processo sull'arte e sulla  
figura dell'artista.

La mostra vuole mettere in luce come la generazione di Internet stia  
dando nuovo slancio a una pratica artistica inaugurata negli anni  
Sessanta dall’arte concettuale, e sviluppatasi nei decenni successivi  
nelle forme dell’appropriazione e della postproduzione: quella che  
vede l’artista esplorare, raccogliere, archiviare, manipolare e  
riutilizzare grandi quantità di materiale visivo prelevato dalla  
cultura popolare e dal mondo della comunicazione. Collect the WWWorld  
è un tentativo di rendere conto di come l’arte si relazioni alla  
società dell’informazione.

The Link Center for the Arts of the Information Age is proud to  
announce that Collect the WWWorld. The Artist as Archivist in the  
Internet Age, the show we produced and first presented Spazio  
Contemporanea, Brescia (Italy) from September 24 to October 15, 2011,  
will be presented in an adapted, updated version at the House of  
Electronic Arts Basel.

The last decade has witnessed an incredible growth in the production  
and distribution of images. The availability of inexpensive production  
tools has seen an exponential rise in amateur creativity, while the  
Internet provides a new distribution platform for this kind of  
production, which previously remained private. Collect the WWWorld.  
The Artist as Archivist in the Internet Age investigates the impact of  
this process on art practices and the artist.

The exhibition sets out to demonstrate how the Internet generation is  
implementing and developing a practice started in the Sixties by  
Conceptual Art, and further developed in subsequent decades in the  
forms of Appropriation Art and postproduction: the practice of  
exploring, collecting, archiving, manipulating and reusing huge  
amounts of visual material produced by popular culture and  
advertising. Collect the WWWorld is an attempt to show how art  
responds to the information society.
