Webrecorder: Web Archiving for All! / Workshop at transmediale 2018 face value

Labor Neunzehn in collaboration with transmediale 2018 face value (https://2018.transmediale.de/)  and Rhizome (http://rhizome.org/)  presents a workshop dedicated to Webrecorder (https://webrecorder.io/)  tool. Webrecorder is a web archiving service anyone can use for free to archive web pages, along with any additional content triggered by interactions.

How are the value of the Internet and all our interactions within it preserved over time? The answer to this question is usually left for corporations to formulate, but in this workshop you will be introduced to an innovative and accessible tool for user-driven web archiving, with which data can be both collectively shared and stored by individuals. Participants will receive a quick overview of key web archiving concepts and the Webrecorder tool, an open-source project developed by Rhizome at the New Museum (https://www.newmuseum.org/) , New York. Unlike previous, crawler-based web archiving systems, Webrecorder excels at capturing dynamic web content and social media feeds. Participants will learn how to use Webrecorder.io (https://webrecorder.io/) ‘s main features and witness a demonstration of how to download and open web archive (WARC) files using the Webrecorder Player.

Requirements: Please bring your own laptop. Recommended minimum screen resolution 1440×900. Chrome or Firefox browsers installed in advance. The workshop is open to a number of max. 20 participants.

Participants

Lozana Rossenova
Lozana Rossenova is a London-based designer and researcher. She is currently a PhD candidate at the Centre for the Study of the Networked Image at London South Bank University and her research is a collaboration with Rhizome, the leading international born-digital art organization based in New York. Lozana’s research work with CSNI and Rhizome aims to address questions relating to accessibility, performativity and user interaction/participation in the context of the archive of internet art. Lozana holds a BFA in Studio Art from Adelphi University, New York (US), and an MA from the Department of Typography and Graphic Communication at the University of Reading (UK). Lozana is also a visiting lecturer at the University of Reading.


Labor Neunzehn
Labor Neunzehn is an artist-run space in Berlin engaged in multidisciplinary discourse, which involves expanded cinema, music composition, publishing, and critical reflection in media art. Recent work includes "All Sources Are Broken” (http://www.allsourcesarebroken.net/) – an internet-based project that investigates the hypertext space in post-digital books, links obsolescence and creative re-archival practices – the exhibition From Field Recording to Data Sonification in Late Capitalism, the daily film screenings exhibit Beyond the Surface, and the concert series Cluster, focused on contemporary notation. Labor Neunzehn is run by Valentina Besegher and Alessandro Massobrio.
