The opening night festivities attracted over 1,500 filmmakers, artists, actors, delegates, press and industry. Filmmakers flew in from all over the world, Japan, Bulgaria, Ireland, India, Canada, The Netherlands, Sweden, Israel, South America, Spain, the U.K. and all over the U.S. to promote and network. Over 40 trailers were played on large screens throughout the evening. C + C Music Factory's Zelma Davis treated guests to a fantastic acapella version of Everybody Dance Now. Davis provided the vocals for charity awareness music video Pop Your Panties with Paris, Lindsay and Nicole. The short film was produced by Itsi Atkins for Media4Humanity and screened multiple times at the ImaginAsian last week. <br> <br> <img src="http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u65/nyfilmvid eo/newsletter1.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"> <br> <b>C+C Music Factory vocalist Zelma Davis performs live at the NYIIFVF opening night party at China Club - Photo credit Andrew Kaen.</b> <br> <br> Enigmatic indie guru and long-time friend of the NYIIFVF Abel Ferrara officially opened the NYIIFVF at a special luncheon at the Telephone Bar and Grill in the East Village. Ferrara who has directed cult films such as King of New York, Driller Killer, The Funeral and most recently Go Go Tales, offered some candid advice to the latest wave of filmmakers and stressed the importance of creating your own buzz if you want to get noticed in New York. Over the first weekend films and videos from the around the world were exhibited on ever topic and genre imaginable. Several screenings were sold out at Village East Cinema and the festival's newly added venue the ImaginAsian on the Upper East Side. The snow certainly did not stop Japanese animator FROGMAN from walking the red carpet at the world premiere of his latest ground-breaking animation Eagle Talon The Movie - The Chancellor Only Lives Twice. The packed after-party at AZZA kicked off the festival's week-long celebration of parties. Ireland was well represented with the high-quality documentary, The Flight of the Earls/Imeacht na nlarlai starring Oscar-nominated Irish actor Stephen Rea (The Crying Game, V for Vendetta). The drama documentary tells the story of Hugh O'Neill, the Earl of Tyrone who travelled to Europe in 1607 to seek aid to regain the lands of Ulster. Memorable screenings on Saturday included New York Blood, a feature drama about a drug-dealing mobster directed by Nick Oddo. Several cast members were present for the screening including, Vinnie Stigma, (guitarist of Agnostic Front) and Frank Aquilino (Goodfellas, King of New York and A Bronx Tale). <br> <br> The red carpet premiere of A Call for Valor was packed with the New Jersey Police Officers. Manny Collins from the New York Jets got the cameras flashing when he made a special appearance to support the film and its director D.R. Hernandez, a retired Latina police captain turned award-winning filmmaker. The visceral docudrama short tells the story of Sgt. Journey of a Contract Killer blew audiences away and earned a nomination for Best Picture. Fantastic lead actress Justine Powell (Lady Macbeth) and producer Michele Damiano represented the film. Lime Salted Love starring Kristanna Loken (The L Word, Terminator 3) also had its East Coast Premiere. The film directed by Danielle Agnello and Joe Hall is an avant-garde drama and surreal examination of guilt abuse and psychic pain set in hipster enclaves of Los Angeles. The film screened downtown at the Village East and was attended by the Bulgarian Consulate General, Ambassador Nikolay Milkov. Happy Valley written and directed by established NYC make-up artist Tina Murgas was sold out up at the ImaginAsian.
